Your New Pet
Congratulations. You have a new friend in your life. A new pet can bring so much joy and adventure into your life, it is one of the best things you can do.
We have listed out our key tips and services to help you and your new pet thrive in the future.
Blythman and Partners offer a wide range of health check ups to ensure that your pet remains happy, healthy and in top condition. Best of all, many of these checks are available free of charge, please speak to a member of our team for more details.
If you’re welcoming a furry friend to the family, our free new pet checks can give you peace of mind and your pet a clean bill of health. We also hold free nursing clinics, providing tips and techniques on how to best care for your animals.
For those pets who have had to undergo surgery, we also offer free post-operative check ups, making sure that your pet is well and truly on the mend.
At Blythman & Partners, we recognise the importance of vaccinations to help keep your pet protected from many infectious diseases. As such we provide a reminder service that informs you when your pet is due their annual vaccinations.
Dogs receive a combined injection to protect them from distemper, Hepatitis, leptospirosis and parvo. This is given annually as it is more convenient for you and your pet ensuring they are always fully protected.
Kennel cough vaccinations protect against some strains of bordetella and are given via a nasal vaccine squirted down your dog’s nose. As this is a contagious airborne disease we recommend that all dogs are vaccinated annually not just the ones going into kennels. The Kennel cough vaccination is included in our Wellness Plan.
Puppies should receive their first vaccination at 8 weeks followed by a second vaccine at 10-12 weeks old, then annual vaccines thereafter.
Cats receive an annual combined injection to protect them from calici virus and herpes virus (known as cat flu), feline panleukopenia (feline distemper), and feline leukaemia.
Kittens should receive their first vaccination at 9 weeks followed by a second vaccine at 12 weeks old, then annual vaccines thereafter.
Rabbits receive a combined annual vaccination against myxomatosis and viral haemorrhagic disease (VHD) and VHD2 with the first injection being given from 5 weeks old.
All of our Wellness Plans include annual booster vaccinations and offers are available for new puppy and kittens joining the Wellness Plan at their first vaccination.

Our Puppy Socialisation Parties provide a great way to pick up health and training tips from one of our veterinary nursing team.
At Blythman & Partners, we recognise the importance of socialising your new puppy in a safe environment.
We offer a FREE Puppy Socialisation Party for our clients and their new puppies.
The class is an ideal opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have and pick up tips on training and socialising. The evening will focus on safe socialisation in a calm environment giving your puppy positive experiences.
Our Veterinary Nurse is on hand to demonstrate techniques to encourage calmness, how to read body language, and teaching basic commands.
Parties are held every other Thursday at our Gosforth Hospital from 7 – 8 pm for puppies that are no more than 11 weeks old and have received their first vaccination but not their second.
Puppies attending must have a correctly fitted harness or collar worn at all times. Flexi leads are not permitted in class.
A maximum of 2 people per puppy is advised. Please bring high value training treats with you, these will be needed to practice techniques demonstrated.
Puppy parties are held on a first come first served basis. Please contact your local branch to secure your place at the next puppy party.
Blythman and Partners strongly recommend pet insurance, to help you cover the cost of any unexpected veterinary treatment.
We routinely ask you to pay for your pet’s treatment then provide us with a claim form from your insurance company. Please ensure the policy holders section is completed and signed before leaving it to be completed by the Veterinary team. The completed claim form will then be sent to your insurance company for them to reimburse you.
Please be aware that a further claim form will be required for subsequent treatment and visits.
At Blythman and Partners, we can introduce puppies and kittens over 6 weeks old with 4 weeks’ free insurance with Pet plan.
This is usually at their first visit to the surgery and gives your pet instant cover against illnesses and injuries. We would recommend that you choose a lifetime/covered for life insurance policy as this usually means that you will have cover for a set amount of veterinary fees that is renewed each policy year and is ideal for ongoing conditions such as diabetes, skin problems or heart disease.
We highly recommend microchipping to ensure your pet’s wellbeing. This reliable and permanent means of identification will increase the chance of a happy reunion, should your pet ever go missing.
For more information, please see our dedicated Microchipping page.
